After several days of nasty weather in Dallas, we got a break today just so our plane to San Diego could take off uneventfully : ) Dallas was at its best in the morning ... foggy skyline on the way to the airport and clear for take off!
We arrived to sunny San Diego uneventfully. Our motorcycles were waiting for us at the dealer ... we did have to fix a few things ... one of my side boxes was broken ... nothing a drill and some zip ties couldn't fix ... Rob's battery was leaking acid so it had to be replaced.
Finally, took off and headed south to the border. Wow, that same feeling again ... the excitement of the unknown ... the increased level of awareness ... the sharpness of it all.
Traffic was easy until we got to the border ... not an issue when you can split lanes all the way to ... Mexico! ... wait, a customs agent wants me to open everything on my bike ... That was going to be complicated so I talked her out of it and convinced her to do a selfie instead.
Again, it never seizes to amaze me what a border does to separate people, cultures, languages, thought, and even nature! San Diego was all freeways, fast paced, billboards, fast food, cars everywhere ... Tijuana was slower, long treed avenues, parks in the middle, roundabouts with fountains and statues, and ... people! walking, at outdoor restaurants ... our cue to chill, slow down, and enjoy the moment.
Surprisingly, Tijuana is a very nice city. Great restaurants, shopping, boulevards. Checked in at our hotel and went for a walk, dinner, and a visit to Plaza Rio ... the newest, coolest, outdoor mall in the city.
