This is the inaugural post for this adventure.
I have been planning this second attempt at crossing the Baja peninsula on a motorcycle for a while now. This time, I am not doing it solo. This time I am not planning to get stuck, to abandon the bike, to walk through the night across mountains to get a rescue party to get me out of the ditch.
This time Andy Scott, David Varela, and Rob Scott have joined the expedition. This time we are taking a BMW R1200GS Adventure, a KTM 990, a BMW R650GS Dakar and a BMW G650GS Sertao. And, we have prepared ourselves with all the tools, camping gear, food, extra water and gas, which we may need when the going gets tough.
All the maps are now marked up, the GPS routes are loaded, and the current weather conditions have been analyzed.
In order to save time, we decided to ship our motorcycles ahead of time so we can fly from Dallas a few days later to get the trip started. Today, was the day our shipper came to pick up the bikes ... and, surprise, his trailer was too small to fit all the bikes. We quickly put Plan B into action ... our own trailer, our own pick-up truck and a hired driver. All in a period of a few hours!
This should be a good predictor of the group's resourcefulness for what we are likely to find in Baja.
