Paradise or Apocalypse

The road south of San Felipe was interesting.  Very nice riding next to the ocean, desert and hills on the right, the blue ocean and some islands on the left.  This probably was a very popular hangout for Californians in the 70's and 80's ... now, there are long stretches of apocalyptic-looking real estate deals that seemed abandoned ... half built houses, abandoned RVs, junk yard stuff here and there ... with a beautiful ocean right in front!

We made it to Puertecitos (weird, abandoned, run down also) and then to Gonzagas where we finally found some gas ... and the most beautiful beach and hidden bay with golden sand.  There was a restaurant with amazing views, a few houses, and a dirt landing strip with a small airplane or two here and there.  We heard that up until a year or two ago it was very hard to get here ... now the road was paved!

Heading south, it was off-road through some beautiful canyons.  We ran into the famous Coco's Corner of the Baja 1000 fame.  Coco settled here in the middle of nowhere in 1990 and continues to be one of the most visited places by motorcyclists from around the world that happen to be around the area.  Interesting to see how many people around this area have checked out from the rat-race in the US an decided to migrate, settle, and enjoy the desert, the sun, the beach, the ocean ... and the simpler life.

All in all a great off-road run all the way to Bahia de los Angeles ... the run was fast, rocky, with sweeping turns, and some whoops and dips that made us get some air here and there.  The view of Bahia de los Angeles as we approached was spectacular and only found in Baja ... what a unique combination of colors .... desert, sun, ocean, sand, mountains, reflections, dirt, cactus.

With no wifi, no cellular service, and intermittent electricity, we had some fish for dinner and went to bed when it got dark.  It is amazing how easy our bodies get used to nature's rhythm ... sleep at dark, wake up at dawn, eat when hungry ... no stress, no watches, no media, no internet, no deadlines ... just joining the flow of the universe : )

Tomorrow we will try to get to some very remote areas, all off-road ... hopefully we won't find too much sand or silt  ... if it gets to tough, we will camp in a remote beach somewhere!
