The Whale Connection

Today, we had an intense connection with nature. We went out on a boat into the bay looking for whales. At first, we saw a few in the distance and as we moved on, they began to get closer.  At some point, we were surrounded by them.  After one made a pass and splashed us with her tail, she brought her calf to the boat stayed with us for a long time allowing us to pet them. The mother kept bringing the calf to the surface to play with us.  Other whales soon joined the party.  Amazing!

Seeing an animal that big, so close, so playful, looking at them directly in eye, touching their skin, seeing their blow hole when exhaling, feeling them bump the boat from below ... at that moment, for a moment, everything is right with the world.

After the whales, we decided to ride all the way to Loreto.  The longest ride of the trip so far.  From west coast back to east coast and then south.  It was the best paved twistie road of the trip .... with the ocean next to us ... and desert, mountains, canyons on the other side.  We even saw some oasis (just like in Morocco) with lots of water, palm trees, and lush vegetation surrounded by arid lansdcapes.  The human soul likes green!

We went through San Ignacio, Santa Rosalia, Mulege, Bahia de la Concepcion, and then Loreto. After 2 days in a row of camping, we were ready for a nice hotel ... and, yes, it was nice ... and it had a shower!

Tomorrow, we go see some old missions inland ... and ride some more dirt ...yes, again!
